The physics teacher who built a 1.4 million-student classroom, one exam question at a time
Maya Okafor left a school of 900 pupils for an audience of millions. She still marks their work.
Former secondary-school physics teacher who turned exam revision into one of the UK's largest education channels.
Maya Okafor taught physics for eleven years in a comprehensive school in Leicester before a nine-minute revision video, filmed on a phone propped against a cereal box, found an audience of hundreds of thousands of students she had never met. Five years on she runs Revision Club, a subscription platform with eight former teachers, and still films every explainer herself.
She describes the work as teaching with a bigger room: one exam question, fully worked, filmed in one take, no music, no cuts.

She did not leave teaching for the internet; she took the classroom with her. Her channel works because it is built on a teacher's instinct for the slowest student in the room, not on the algorithm's appetite for personality.
